Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X (初音ミク -Project DIVA- X?) is a 2016 rhythm video game developed by Sega and Crypton Future Media. The PlayStation Vita was released in Asia on March 24, 2016. A PlayStation 4 version of the game, titled Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X HD (初音ミク -Project DIVA- X HD?) was released on August 25, 2016 in Asia. Both physical and digital versions (digital only in Europe) of the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 versions of Project DIVA X were released in North America and Europe on August 30, 2016.

Development[]

The game was revealed on August 31, 2015 on Hatsune Miku's 8th anniversary. It showed the full PV of "Raspberry*Monster" revealing the confirmed artists/producers involved in providing the songs in the game.

Gameplay[]

Like every other game in the series, the player taps the directional and PlayStation action buttons (Cross, Circle, Triangle and Square) that correspond to the displayed button and flicking either stick or swiping the PS Vita's screen/DualShock 4's touchpad for Star notes to the beat of various songs. DIVA X introduces a Rush Note, where after hitting the note regularly, the player can then tap either of the buttons that correspond to that note as quickly as possible to gain bonus points within a short amount of time. The "Linked-Star notes" and "Double Star" notes that were introduced in Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd have been removed.

There is a new gameplay mode, known as Live Quest which is a story mode where the player completes a series of rhythm game quests in each song of all five Clouds. All rhythm game quests require a specific amount of Voltage (replacing the traditional score) to clear it. The game also has a traditional game mode, under the title "Free Play".

Song list[]

The game contains a total of 30 playable songs (not including "Ievan Polkka" as the tutorial), six of which are medleys and two which return from previous entries in the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA or Project Mirai series.[1]

Downloadable content[]

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X features downloadable content for additional songs and Modules, including the Extra Character Modules (ie. derivatives). As with Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd, all downloadable content purchased are cross-compatible, allowing the player to download them to both the PS Vita and PS4 versions DIVA X when purchasing it just once (as long as both versions of the game are purchased under the same Sony Entertainment account).

As a campaign to the game's launch, the Snow Miku 2010-2015 Modules were downloadable for free within a month of the game's release from August 30, 2016 – September 30, 2016 and were then made paid purchases after that.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first entry since the first Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA to not include the following:
    • Artist-drawn illustrations used as the game's loading screens. Instead, they appear at the end credits.
    • A duet song of just Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len.
